Mars has two relatively small (compared to Earth's) natural moons, Phobos (about 22 km in diameter) and Deimos (about 12 km in diameter), which orbit close to the planet.

The mosaic is composed of 102 Viking Orbiter images of Mars. The center of the scene shows the entire Valles Marineris canyon system, over 2000 kilometers long and up to 8 kilometers deep.

The images of the moons are made by means of HiRISE telescope from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

Why does it not display the entire picture?
Answer: It is OK that the picture is not displayed entirely. During rotation of the disc different parts of the picture are displayed.
